Cauliflower Ear

Description : Repeated blunt trauma to the auricle produces areas of subperichondrial separation, shearing, and localized hemorrhage. Devitalization causes areas of cartilage softening with resorption, while healing produces a focal generation of fibrous tissue and scar formation as the clot organizes. With time the normal landmarks of the pinna are obscured as abnormal prominences develop.

Numerous areas of thickened scar tissue can be seen just above the conchal bowl
