||Human bites to the auricle may be sustained during fights. As with any injury in the facial area, these lacerations are conservatively debrided and sutured. If a fragment is missing, care must be taken to trim or cover any exposed cartilage during the initial repair.
The primary goal in the treatment of auricular trauma is to conserve tissue in order to avoid a severe cosmetic deformity which may be difficult to correct later, and to retain the important function of sound localization.
The posteroinferior portion of this auricle was bitten off in a barroom brawl.
