Histopathology of Solar Lentigo
| Description |
: |
Histologically the rete ridges are elongated and appear either club-shaped or tortuous, with small bud-like extensions. Between the elongated rete ridges the epidermis may appear atrophic. The coloration is caused by considerable hyperpigmentation of the basal keratinocytes and an increase in the concentration of melanocytes.
Microscopically, solar lentigo is characterized by elongation and club-shaped or bud-like extensions of the rete ridges. In the deeper portion the rete ridges are composed of deeply pigmented basaloid cells intermingled with melanocytes. H&E 145.6 x. |
