Solar lentigo commonly develops as multiple lesions in areas of the skin that have been exposed to the sun. These lesions rarely occur before the fourth decade of life and slowly increase in both size and number. Solar lentigo develops in approximately 90% of whites over the age of 70.
Clinically, the lesions appear as multiple, uniformly pigmented, dark brown, flat lesions which have an irregular outline. Malignant degeneration does not occur in these lesions.
On the left, the flat patch of increased pigmentation within the skin of the superior helix is an area of solar lentigo. |
