||comedo consists of a collection of keratinized cells and sebum trapped at the opening of a pilosebaceous follicle. If the follicle is closed, it is described as a "whitehead." If the comedo is located in an open follicle, the contents darken with time and it is termed a "blackhead." Comedones occur most frequently in skin that contains numerous sebaceous glands, such as the conchal bowl.
A small comedo or "blackhead" is located in the conchal bowl. Gentle expression will readily empty the contents.
