Primary Cutaneous Amyloid

Description : Amyloid is a complex fibrillar protein, believed to originate from the plasma cells. As distinct from systemic amyloidosis, local cutaneous amyloid deposits occur in aging individuals and at sites of localized inflammation or trauma. The multiple raised, papular lesions appear to produce a so-called ripple effect.

The cutaneous deposits of amyloid in this patient presented as bilateral raised, rippled deposits in the postauricular sulci.
